CEDP Update

Can you believe it? It’s been a year since proposed changes to the Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) were first announced. With multi-year funding, revised admission standards and tiered operational support tied directly to the achievement of best practices and standards on the table, the “new and improved” CEDP was a significant departure from the original program.

The heritage community responded to these changes with relatively little fuss. Largely, I suspect, because important details, like the revised admission requirements and funding formula, were still in the works. Well, that’s all changed ... sort of.

DDP Update

Remember the Destination Development Plan, or DDP? According to an announcement recently circulated by the Eastern Destination Management Organization (EDMO), the first phase of the DDP is nearing completion. Interested in hearing the preliminary findings and their implications to tourism stakeholders ... i.e. all of us? If so, you'll want to make an effort to attend one of the upcoming DDP info sessions.

Those of you who attended the session in Port Rexton will remember that a number of concerns were raised re. the project methodology, including how challenges relating to sustainability, capacity, and funding impact service and program delivery by not-for-profit organizations. That meeting ended with reassurances that these issues would be carefully considered. The end result? A series of questions dealing with funding were added to a survey circulated to tourism operators. For those of you who did not participate in the survey, I've attached a PDF version below. Weren't contacted? Don't take it personally. AHI was also left off the email ist. HA!

I'm interested in hearing the DDP's preliminary findings and - more importantly your feedback. I'll be attending at least one of the sessions and will circulate an update shortly after.

July Webinars

It's July - a time of long summer evenings and (for those of us without HBO) endless re-runs. Surely there's no better time to heave off on the deck, crack open the lap top and enjoy a refreshing webinar. Only have a few minutes to spare? No problem. The Texas Museum Association offers short shots of training (3 - 15 minutes) on a wide range of topics ... from community engagement to photo storage and just about everything in between. Enjoy!

JCP ... How have you fared?

This week, AHI received word that applications from a number of heritage organizations for funding under the Job Creation Partnership Program (JCP) have been turned down. With the next round of funding applying to projects with a start date between September and November, 2013, the failure to receive funding is a serious blow to organizations that were depending on JCP to help staff their sites and/or undertake initiatives during the current tourist season.
